ABDULLAHI YOUSUF’S SUCCEED IS ABATE OF OUR SOMALI AMBITION

Freedom is not something that anybody can be given. Freedom is something people take, and people are as free as they want to be. / James Baldwin

Dicember,28.2004 Radio Free Somali (RFS)

Do they condone and they empathize? Were they invited them to read some ancient Greek dissertations on the art of negotiations over tea? No. the answer is big NO. The Somali elders initiated peace and reconciliation to save their war-torn country. Their intention was to work for peace by themselves, because of the prolonged civil war in our homeland. The Somali peace loving elders seek solution to build a genuine government of national unity. The philosophy behind peace reconciliation was that they witnessed a combination of power vacuum, lootings, raping, draught and competition among rival militias for scarce resources that led to the crisis of famine and warfare of the early 1980s. They witnessed the worst atrocities ever committed to mankind like killing elders, children, and women. They also had seen on their own eyes the destruction of the capital city Mogadishu which was once called the most peaceful city in the Africa. Somali freedom fighters were forcefully drove Siyad Barre, the head of the Somali revolution and he left Somalia in frightful straits. The Somali elders’ hopes for a second independence evaporated. A power vacuum led to further anarchy and civil war that promoted leading militia-leaders (warlords) to top positions because of their military might. Abdullahi Yousuf is one of the militia leaders who has “a grotesque record”. He captured the will of his own clan in N/Eastern region known as Majeertiinya.

Abdullahi Yusuf has committed inhumanly atrocities in North Eastern region of Somalia, which the death of the highly respected Somali paramount chief leaders, journalists and other innocent civilians were his victims. Some of his classmate who knew Abdullahi Yousuf in his early young life defined him as “insane person” (source BBC Somali section). It was once said, thoughts lead to acts, acts lead to habits, habits lead to character. His heinous character of inhumanity is based on abuse, exploitation, mercilessness and greed of power.

I've always been struck by the humility of the men and women who saved Somalia from the tyranny of Italian fascists. When they tell their stories, which is not often, they speak not of themselves and their own courage but of that of others like the chairman of SYL Abdulqadir Sheikh Saqawadin, Haji Barako and Ali Shiddo and other freedom fighters. Ali Shiddo is still alive is in Nairobi and stood together with other Somali traditional elders for one main goal, a goal which was and remain the aspiration of Somali people, which was and still is, find free democratic united Somalia. Now, Somalia is seeking a faithful Somalia leader who has a leadership personality, elected by the Somali people, and not serving for a foreign country.

Each crime created the momentum for a more destructive atrocity in Somalia. You can shrug it off and say, “It doesn’t matter”, but history shows what happens to cultures that take that attitude – thousands of Abdullahi’s own clan Majeerteens and other tribes like Ortables and Dhulmahantes were roasted their bodies in the North-Eastern region of Somali. I humbly call the Somali elders, elite civilian organizations and peace loving world to take a tangible action against this aging puppet dictator who is still has a thirsty and mongering to shed more Somali blood.

I repeatedly call Somali elders to uproot this evil shrub before it grows and doom us. This, I think is the quickest and most effective way to bring about change. How do we do this? Make sure Somali traditional elders, freedom fighters must not cooperate to this puppet regime lead by Abdullahi Yusuf created who created by Ethiopia.
