IS THE SOMALI PRESIDENT MR YUSUF BEHIND THE CONSPIRACY TO VANDALIZE THE ITALIAN GRAVEYARDS IN MOGADISCIO?

Many people speculate that the arrival of Mr.Yusuf Bari Bari, personal advisor and spokesperson of the president is related to the hiring of freelance gunmen and unknown militia claiming to be Islamists, are the real culprits who have excavated the Italian Cemetery in Mogadiscio

The vandalizing of the graves cannot be an isolated incident, it is outrageous and it is not mere coincidence to the fact that this inhumane act of the graveyards happened (18 January 2005) the day after the first representatives from the TFG-in-exile in Nairobi visited Mogadiscio (17 January 2005).

It is incomprehensible for the Somali population of Mogadiscio to understand the reasons why the graves did get ransacked at this moment?

For a faithful Moslem society, it is immoral to do such inhumane act during the Holy Week of Xajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, and on the eve of Eid-Al-Adha (20 Januray 2005).

During 14 years of anarchy and civil war NO such incidents have ever occurred to INTER CLAN WARS AND CONFLICTS OF THE SOMALI SOCIETY.

However, during the Barre’s regime it was customary to dig out graves and dispose them to municipal waste areas. The aim was to humiliate the natives of Mogadiscio, to demonstrate them that they and their ancestors were not safe. An illustrative example of such inhumane act was the disposal of graves in the o called “Life and Afterlife Project” (Xafaadda IF iyo Akhiiro). where thousands ANCESTORS of the inhabitants of Mogadiscio were ransacked.

By vandalizing the Italian cemetery in Mogadiscio, Mr. Yusuf intends to pursue the following objectives:

- To reinforce his government-n-exile policy of not be able to proceed to the capital Mogadiscio as required by law (Ref. Article 5 of the TFG’s Charter).

- To reinforce his request for foreign troops. ARGUMENT AD BACULUM. The appeal to force is to coerce opponents and it is the last resort to PEACE BUILDING in Somalia.

- To use the anti-terrorist momentum and appeal to ARGUMENT AD POPULUM. The appeal to Emotions goal is to win the support of the Western world by manipulating the emotions of the populace.

Following the sad outrageous event of the graveyards

- Mr. Yusuf received a donation of 75,000 dollars from the Archbishop of the Anglican Church based in South Africa. Why is the Church suddenly interested in the plight of poverty, famine and war of the Somali people?

- Mr. Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian Prime Minister, contacted the TFG for the first time! Mission accomplished as the TFG has captivated the Italian media by the portrayal of the population of Mogadiscio as barbarian.

Mr. Yusuf is an archtypical warlord who like many of his cabinet has never contributed to the building of the society. There is no single warlord who has ever built a school or provided social services to his community.

Meanwhile, during the 15 years of the civil war the Islamic clergy have achieved many charitable objectives and replaced the existing vacuum in the Judiciary system by:

- building schools, water wells, and mosques
- provided support to many orphanage centers,
- distributed food rations to thousands of Internally Displaced People
- established legal services to many communities through the application of Sharia law in the absence of a Penal Code
- fulfilled their religious duties
- Protected vulnerable groups such as women and children. There are few cases of rape in the areas under the protection of the Islamic clergy.

Mr. Yusuf is not better than Mr. Siyaad Barre as both were military men who advanced their political goals under the pretext of Marxism and Anti-terrorism historical times. All of these ideologies will not last long.

Somalia is a Muslim society and neither we Somalis should not be dismayed by the events of 9/11 nor we should accept conspiracy and falsehood against our faith nor we should submit ourselves to the political whims of the president.
